Subject Stratification Study of Patients with Geographic Atrophy (the SIGHT study)
Chief Investigator: Professor Andrew Lotery
Principal Investigator (Oxford) Professor Peter Charbel Issa
What association is there between the geographic atrophy phenotype of AMD and low CFI protein levels and CFI gene variants?
Changes in a gene which makes a protein for a complement factor have been found in patients with an eye condition called AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration). Furthermore low complement factor protein levels have been found in the blood of patients with AMD and these Complement Factor gene mutations. This project aims to identify patients with advanced dry AMD (geographic atrophy), low blood protein levels together with gene mutations. These patients will then be offered the opportunity to have their details held in a registry in anticipation that they may be able to participate in potential future studies targeting Complement Factor supplementation.
